Best rooftop terraces in Paris

Nice weather in Paris gives us all the irrepressible desire to spend hours on any one of the capital’s inviting terraces.  The only thing that could be better?  A rooftop terrace!  The rooftop is an ideal place to unwind with a drink, have a bite to eat, and take in lovely city views.  Read on to discover our favorite rooftop locales throughout the capital, all boasting their own gorgeous views of Paris.

The Shed, the most intimate

Located at the top of the Hôtel des Grands Boulevards, The Shed offers us respite from the hustle and bustle of the Poissonnière neighborhood below. Relaxation guaranteed.

The Shed – 17 boulevard Poissonnière, Paris 2

L’Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers, discreetly chic

With a very limited maximum capacity (30 people), the rooftop of the Hôtel des Arts et Métiers offers guests a breathtaking 360° view of some of the most beautiful monuments in Paris.

Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers – 243 rue Saint-Martin, Paris 3

Communion, the most lively

Perched at the top of the Cité de la Mode et du Design, Communion is both a restaurant-bar and an electro dance floor. An ideal spot to unwind and welcome the weekend.

Communion – 36 Quai d’Austerlitz, Paris 13

Le Mama Shelter, the trendiest

Boasting colorful parasols and cushioned seats with tons of pillows, as well as a ping pong and foosball table, the rooftop of Mama Shelter is a great place to relax with friends in the 20th arrondissement. Perfect for a young and friendly crowd.

Mama Shelter – 109 rue de Bagnolet, Paris 20 / Open every day from 7:30 AM to 11 AM and from 12:30 PM to midnight

Le 43 Cocktail Bar, the most “wow”

The 360° view from this rooftop, situated on the ninth floor of the Holiday Inn Paris – Notre Dame (6th), is simply incredible, exuding a romantic ambience perfect for an intimate date night.  Although prices are on the steep end, the view is worth it.

43 Cocktail Bar – 4 rue Danton, Paris 6 / Open every day from 5 PM to 10:30 PM

Le Luxor, for movie buffs

Le Luxor, a celebrated movie theatre near Barbés, shelters a small rooftop bar with a pretty view of the Sacré-Coeur.  A very friendly and relaxed neighborhood spot, guests appreciate its informal atmosphere.  On the menu: charcuterie plates and delicious cocktails.

Le Louxor – 170 boulevard de Magenta, Paris 10

Au top, the most Mediterranean

Paris’ newest rooftop, Au Top is the latest hidden gem for those who frequent the Marais. At this chic restaurant-bar, guests enjoy delicious Mediterranean dishes during the week and hearty brunches on weekends.  Make sure to call ahead, the restaurant is reservation only!

Au Top – 93 rue Vieille du Temple, Paris 3

Le Perchoir de l’Est, for those on the go

Beneath the ironwork on the façade of Gare de l’Est, a picturesque rooftop terrace has been conceptualized by Le Perchoir, who already have rooftop locations in Ménilmontant (absolutely packed in the summer) and at the top of the BHV Marais (equally as popular). With its comfortable benches, full bar, and snack selection, Le Perchoir de l’Est is a welcome break for Parisians and travelers alike.

Le Perchoir de l’Est – Place du 11 novembre 1918, rue du 8 mai 1945, Paris 10 / Reopening this summer

La Machine du Moulin Rouge, the most montmartois

Paris best-kept secret, the rooftop of the legendary Moulin Rouge is open through the night, with partygoers enjoying the view of boulevard de Clichy and the Pigalle area well into the morning. Not exactly a night owl?  Worry not, the terrace is open during daylight hours as well, offering garden-style ambiance with plants and shrubs.

La Machine du Moulin Rouge – 90 boulevard de Clichy, Paris 18

L’Oiseau blanc, the most regal

L’Oiseau blanc is the Hôtel Peninsula’s latest restaurant, named after the infamous aircraft that disappeared over the Atlantic.  Situated on the 6th floor of the hotel, a stone’s throw from the Arc de Triomphe, the restaurant boasts first and foremost a breathtaking view over Paris’ most-celebrated monuments. l’Oiseau Blanc also offers gourmet cuisine at prices below that of other fine Parisian hotels, at €69 for lunch and €109 for dinner.  We especially love the life-size reproduction of the l’Oiseau Blanc airplane on the roof, visible from the tables.

L’Oiseau Blanc, within the Hôtel Peninsula Paris – 19 Avenue Kléber, Paris 16

Mun, on the Champs Elysées

Wonderful views on the rooftops of Paris, the Champs-Elysées, the Arc de Triomphe, and even the Eiffel Tower and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, this is what to expect at MUN, the latest project of Paris Society. This new restaurant set on 52 avenue des Champs-Elysées has just been added to the most beautiful rooftops in Paris already providing wonderful views.

Perchoir, Marais – Best view of Hotel de Ville

Perchoir’s Marais location is a secret hideout with some of the best views in Paris.  You enter a private door at the back of BHV department store and go straight to the roof where you’ll find low slung tables with Mediterranean style banquettes and stools.

The cuisine features a tapas style menu including a board of Corsican cold cuts from Montalet, Figatelle Lonzo Coppa, as well as burrata, bottarga, fennel and black olives from Nyons, or tapenade and herb fougasse, taramasalata based on sea urchin coral, without forgetting datterini tomatoes, cured ham and sage.   Every day from 7:15 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

Perruche – Views in the 9th

Both a cocktail bar and a restaurant, head to Printemps Haussmann rooftop to discover this spot with unobstructed views over Paris. Perruche is perched on Printemps de l’Homme-Printemps du Goût department store rooftop. Offering an awe-inspiring panoramic view, Perruche takes you to a green atmosphere thanks to numerous exotic plants.

Musée Guimet

Craving some sunrays while gazing at Paris and the Eiffel Tower? Run to Musée Guimet. A one-of-its-kind rooftop reminding us of the “deck of great transatlantic liners”, open all summer long until 6 p.m., expected to return every year for Asian art fans and lovers of fantastic views.

Creatures

Moma Group has created a buzz with the opening of Créatures.  Perched on the Galeries Lafayettes Paris-Haussmann rooftop, this new restaurant will give pride of place to 100% vegetarian dishes by chef Julien Sebbag.
