Picasso. Bleu et rose
The inexhaustible work of Picasso is once again on display this season, this time from the angle of the blue and pink periods of his career. The first collaboration of its kind between the Musée d’Orsay and the Picasso Museum, this exhibition brings together numerous masterpieces, some of which will be presented for the first time ever in France, such as La Vie, and offers a renewed interpretation on the years 1900-1906, a critical period during the artist’s career that to this date has never been studied as a whole by a French museum.

Michael Jackson at the Grand Palais, an idea as improbable as it is obvious: only a monument of this size could host an exhibition about the King of Pop. Although he has always been considered an icon in the world of music, music videos, dance and fashion, his impact on contemporary art has never been addressed. It is all of this inspiration he has given to prestigious artists that the exhibition will highlight.

A Czech artist of international renown, Alphonse Mucha remains inseparable from the image of 1900s Paris. His celebrity comes mainly from his elegant posters of a very distinct style, emblematic of Art Nouveau. But his activity as a poster artist too often overshadows other aspects of his work, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, decorations, and objets d’art. Through all of these pieces emerges the figure of a man, mystic and visionary, driven by genuine political thought.

From one end of the twentieth century to the other, from Europe to America (New York), the works and lives of Egon Schiele and Jean-Michel Basquiat fascinate with their dazzling intensity. Both died at the age of 28, and became major figures in the art of their century in less than a decade. Separated into two parallel routes, these exhibitions will plunge visitors into the life of Schiele in the Vienna of 1900, an intellectual and artistic center on the forefront marked by the Secession, and that of Basquiat in the New York of the early 1980s with the vitality of its underground scene.

This exhibition celebrating the twentieth year of the Musée d’art et d’histoire du Judaïsme, is the first-ever presented in France on Sigmund Freud. Through a collection of 200 pieces, paintings, drawings, engravings, works, objects and scientific devices, including major works by Gustave Courbet (The Origin of the World), Oskar Kokoschka, Mark Rothko, and Egon Schiele, this exhibition takes a fresh look at the intellectual and scientific journey of the inventor of psychoanalysis.

The Centre Pompidou offers a unique perspective as well as a complete panorama of one of the founding movements in the history of modern art: Cubism (1907-1917). The first exhibition devoted to Cubism in France since 1953, the project’s originality is in its desire to renew and expand the Cubist vision to other artists, a vision that is traditionally focused on its two inventors, Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso. Some big names present in this exhibition will be Albert Gleizes, Jean Metzinger, Francis Picabia, Marcel Duchamp, Robert and Sonia Delaunay.

Through an interactive virtual journey and spectacular immersive staging, these sites are resurrected throughout the exhibition.

Dorothea Lange – Politiques du visible

This exhibition presents major works by the great American photographer Dorothea Lange, some of which have never been exhibited in France. Like John Steinbeck’s famous 1939 novel, The Grapes of Wrath, Lange’s work helped shape our vision of the interwar period in the United States. Along with prints, various objects having belonged to the photographer will place her work in the context of this troubled period.

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Meiji Restoration, this exhibition will highlight the many upheavals associated with the Meiji era (1868-1912), an unprecedented revolution for both Japan and the world. It will bring together, among other things, examples of gold-smithery, photographs, textiles, paintings, bronzes, and ceramics to illustrate the changes that have taken place in society as a whole and in art in particular.

Caravaggio (1571-1610), emblematic figure of seventeenth century Italian painting, is back for an exhibition event at the Musée Jacquemart-André. Ten masterpieces by Caravaggio, seven of which have never been presented in France, will be brought together for the first time, alongside works by the master’s illustrious contemporaries including Giuseppe Cesari, Orazio Gentileschi, and Giovanni Baglione.
