With plans to build the Hermitage Plaza towers in Paris’ La Défense business district, Paris will soon trump London as home to Europe’s tallest building. Each of the two skyscrapers, towering in at 320-meters-tall, was designed by British architects, Foster and Partners. Lead by Russian developer and head of the Hermitage Group, Emen Iskenderov, the goal is to create Paris’ version of Manhattan, especially since, “There are many people nowadays who want more than the traditional charming Paris apartment”, says Iskenderov.
The towers will not only be home to office space, as most of the buildings in La Défense are, but also to a five-star hotel and over 500 luxury apartments boasting panoramic views of Paris. While the government gave this project the go-ahead, many local groups are pushing back against plans to add more skyscrapers to Paris’ skyline.
