To see: a free exhibition in homage to Serge Gainsbourg at the Saint-Ouen flea market

Serge Gainsbourg aka Gainsbarre is in the spotlight in an exhibition at the Saint-Ouen flea market called ‘Gainsbourg, et caetera…’ at the Marché Dauphine.

March 2nd marks the 30th anniversary of Serge Gainsbourg’s death, who died from a heart attack in 1991 at the age of 62. An exceptional lyricist and extremely provocative, Gainsbourg is an essential figure of French chanson. World-famous for his songs “Bonnie and Clyde” – which he sang with Brigitte Bardot – and “Je t’aime…Moi non plus” with Bardot and Jane Birkin, Gainsbourg was a multifaceted artist: painter, director, screenwriter, writer, actor and filmmaker…

Around thirty artists will pay tribute to Gainsbourg at the Marché Dauphine

“I turned my jacket over when I noticed it was lined with mink,” he said in an interview about his change of musical style. The Gainsbourg exhibition is dedicated to this man of multiple personalities. It is organised by the Marché Dauphine and curated by the Galerie One Toutou, to be discovered at stand 122 of the market.

30 years after Serge GAINSBOURG’s departure, the Marché Dauphine (Puces de Paris Saint-Ouen) gives carte blanche to the Galerie ONE TOUTOU (stand 122) to pay homage to this singer, lyricist, musician…painter in his early days, a fan of Parisian nights.

More than thirty artists (painters, stencil artists, illustrators, designers, photographers…) have been gathered together by the Galerie ONE TOUTOU (Parisian stencil artist YARPS from the beginning, the artist REYOL ENJOY and WE NEED ART, internet platform specialised in the online sale of works by Street Art artists created by Philippe TORRES) to show GAINSBOURG in a different way.

Throughout the duration of the exhibition, live performances by artists will be offered every weekend.

Authors who have written books retracing the periods in the life of the singer-creator will also be present, to sign autographs, to share the moments they spent by his side, or testimonials of artistic creations that may have been made about his life and work.

To mark the 30th anniversary of Serge Gainsbourg’s death, the flea market in Saint-Ouen is organising a free exhibition to pay tribute to him. Gainsbourg et caetera…, which notably brings together street art works representing Serge Gainsbourg, will be available to visit free of charge, from 27 February to 30 April 2021, at the Marché Dauphine.

The exhibit is thus composed of works by some thirty artists created using different techniques (from painting to photography, including illustration and stencil), who will be exhibiting in the gallery’s annexed stands. Also of note: the photographs of Gainsbourg by the photographer Pierre Terrasson, who had an eye for the rock scene of the 1980s. Gainsbourg fans will also enjoy live performances by the artists, and dedications from authors who wrote books about Serge Gainsbourg.
