Fancy a weekend away near Paris? Here are 3 ideas

Here are 3 great places to visit that are only a few hours (or even minutes) from the capital for those in search of somewhere different and relaxing!

  1. Honfleur, to take in the fresh air of the Channel

Honfleur is a small port town in Calvados which has been transformed into a real charming place thanks to the Vieux-Bassin. It is the birthplace of many famous people and the Côte de Grâce from which you have some breathtaking views. It was in the 19th century that Honfleur became a landmark for artists, fascinated by the natural light that emanates from the estuary as well as by the hundreds of sailboats which offer an incredible reflection. Honfleur is so much more than just a simple city, the town itself is like a painting come to life for the many painters who have come to settle in the area (Eugène Boudin, Lucie Delarue-Mardrus and Henri de Régnier, to name a few). Locals, as well as tourists, love the landscape and views of the city. During your weekend trip week to Honfleur, make sure to admire the beauty of this picturesque place and its colorful half-timbered houses, its fantastic churches including Sainte-Catherine, its bread granaries and public gardens. Take a stroll through the cobbled streets that have escaped the damage from World War II, go bargain hunting in art galleries, sit down in a typically Normandy bistro facing the port to discover specialties such as Camembert de Normandie, Sole Normandy and the traditional and famous Crêpe … Honfleur is a destination as historic as it is magical, a place you can lose yourself in, especially during the off season.

2. The ponds of Corot, spend a day (or two) in a place untouched by time

No need to travel far to get some fresh air and forget the worries of daily life! 50 minutes from the center of Paris (15 for those who live in the south of the capital) are the Etangs de la Ville d’Avray, also called the Etangs de Corot, an enchanting tranquil setting. Take this opportunity to visit the Maison des Jardies (the former property of Balzac and Gambetta) and that of the famous painter Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, to see the Fontaine du Roy (Louis XVI made it his particular source as the water was so good) and to discover the Saint-Nicolas-Saint-Marc church. End your day in the Fausses-Reposes National Forest for a walk – and why not a picnic – under the trees. A bucolic adventure that allows you to recharge your batteries before starting a new week!

3. Bonnelles, for a weekend in the countryside

Our final recommendation takes you to the Yvelines department, 45 kilometers from the City of Light for a weekend in the countryside. Forget your cell phone, computer and other electronic devices and immerse yourself in the nature and green landscapes of this quiet little town. Take advantage of this relaxing setting to explore the countryside, by bike, on foot or even on horseback, to set off on an adventure in the Regional Natural Park of the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse, the Bonnelles Ponds Regional Nature Reserve or the Bonnelles Castle in Louis XIII style, built between 1847 and 1849.
